Below you will find answers to some commonly asked questions about my counselling services. If you have a question not discussed below, please contact me for more information!

FAQ

1. Why should I start counselling?

There are many reasons why someone might come for counselling. These include developing healthy coping skills, or improving your emotional wellbeing, relationships, or self-esteem. Many of my clients feel like it helps them to have someone to talk to, to process difficult feelings or thoughts. My clients have described me as non-judgmental, understanding, and as having a calming presence.

2. How many sessions will I need?

An average amount of sessions ranges from 5-20+, depending on many factors, including how often you would like to meet, what you would like to work on together, and your goals for counselling. Some types of therapy take longer than others.

3. How often will we meet?

An average to start would be meeting every 1-2 weeks. It is recommended to follow this guideline for at least the first few months, but once we know each other a bit better we can meet less frequently if you prefer.

4. Do you take insurance?

I am not able to offer direct billing at this time. However, many private insurance companies provide coverage for counselling. You would just need to confirm this with your provider and submit your receipts to them. I can provide you with the necessary documents to submit.

5. Where are you located? Do you provide virtual counselling services?

My office is located at 385 Loewen Blvd in Steinbach, Manitoba (in the same building as the Red River College campus). I provide in-person services at this location, and also provide online and telephone counselling for residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and select other locations. Please contact me for more information.

6. What are your hours? How do I book an appointment?

For more information, please click the "Book Online" button in the menu at the top of this page.

7. What is your fee? Do you provide free sessions?

My fee is $100 per 50-minute session for online or phone appointments, and $110 for in person appointments. I am not able to provide discounted or free sessions at this time.

8. What type of counselling do you provide?

My guiding principle is that each client is a whole, unique person, with their own strengths and difficulties. I strive to provide practical takeaways for clients and help them use their strengths to cope better with their situation. I draw from a number of different counselling theories and strategies. These include CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), and SFBT (Solution-Focused Brief Therapy), among others.

9. Who do you work with?

My main focus is working with individuals. In particular, I enjoy working with women, teens, young adults, and people with anxiety and/or ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

10. Do you provide ADHD coaching?

Yes. I can also help parents or partners learn strategies for helping their loved ones with ADHD. I provide ADHD coaching for individuals, teens, couples, parents, and anyone who wants to learn more about ADHD.

11. Can you diagnose me/my loved one or prescribe medication?

No. As a clinical therapist I am not able to provide any kind of medical diagnosis. However, I understand that this process can be difficult, especially for those who are already struggling with their mental health. I can help you advocate for yourself or your loved one, assist clients in preparing for their appointments with healthcare providers, help with navigating the healthcare system, and assist you with completing the necessary documentation.

12. What if I can't afford therapy right now?

Therapy is a significant financial investment. I understand that this is not achievable for everyone right away. If you are struggling, make sure to double check your (and your partner's or parent's, if applicable) insurance plan to see if you have any coverage for counselling. Also confirm if you have a Lifestyle or Healthcare Spending Account. These accounts usually can be used for counselling. In the meantime, if you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the free, 24/7 Klinic crisis line at 1-888-322-3019.
